In this case, it has led to a business that has a single focus: Designing & producing the best compact and easy to use kayak sailing rigs ever made!
Here Is Our Story
Some years back, one of my kayaking friends bought a kayak sail kit. Just about all of us thought it was a waste of time and asked the question why go kayak sailing?
After a few years, another friend bought a sail kit and that changed everything. It was not just one paddler talking about how fun it was, now there were two paddlers in our group who were always way ahead and having way more fun when the wind was up. It became obvious that those with a good sail rig had a huge advantage.
When researching available kayak sailing rigs, it was difficult finding a good, compact and efficient rig. In our group of experienced kayakers, sailors, windsurfers there was one question that repeatedly came up – “there has to be a better way?”
All we wanted was a compact sail kit that had a proper air foil shape, smart rig, and quality materials, that was not going to slow us down at the launch site. We figured that such a rig must surely already exist and was just a short Google search away. Well, we were wrong. We made a list of all the sail rigs we found, and none of them were adequate. It was time to make our own kayak sailing rig that had the traits we needed. That is how Falcon Sails started.
Step forward in time. Now we have perfected our design. Our rig is light weight, and compact. It is out of the way when not sailing, and we can install it in about 30 seconds at the launch site. Our sail is aerodynamic with maximum up wind potential. It is great for day paddles and extended wilderness trips. It made perfect sense to make the rig available to everybody who wanted one. A business opportunity was born! Great things can happen when a great design is spawned from a nugget of an idea and proven to work. It was such a great idea that one of the kayak sailing fanatics was able to quit his day job and spend all of his time promoting and singing the praises of kayak sailing. Every day Falcon Sails, LLC is motivated to refine the design and make kayak sailing rigs available for everybody.
